Yahoo Meme Microblogging Service: A Twitter Alternative

September 23rd, 2009 | View Comments | Posted in Communication

yahoo memeYahoo announced its microblogging service yahoo meme some time ago but it is still in beta stage and only members get accepted to use yahoo meme service by invitiation only. So today I got an email from yahoo that I am accepted to use yahoo meme microblogging service and here are my first impressions:

  • Yahoo meme microblogging service provides 2000 character limits for your posts which is nice and even unnecessarily high for a microblogging service but good in any case…
  • Yahoo memo microblogging allows you to use basic html coding in your posts like bold, italic characters or creating links with <a></a> attribute beside quoting.
  • Yahoo meme microblogging supports 3 languages for now: English, Spanish and Portuguese
  • Interface is quite simple to do anything. Beside texting, Yahoo meme microblogging platform allows you to post pictures, videos or music files with a click of a button.
  • Yahoo meme microblogging platform supports uploading photos from your computer or from a website and gives support to upload videos from youtube and vimeo services. To send a music file there is only one opiton though, you need to insert the URL of the music file.

yahoo meme interface

Yahoo meme now has a wordpress plugin also, memepress. So to automate your plog and yahoo meme it is a cool plugin to be used in wordpress ;)

For now, yahoo meme is quite satisfactory for me but there is not so many users because of this beta phase but i am quite sure yahoo meme will be a good twitter alternative somehow ;)

Facebook Account Hacking just 100$!

September 21st, 2009 | View Comments | Posted in Communication, News, Security

Today I read a news from webpornews about a web service providing facebook account hack for any individual having facebook account just for 100$. According to their claim, after you pay them 100$, they provide you a web interface to continue on hacking. It may take 5 minutes to hack any facebook account again according to their claim! After reaching almost over 300 milion user-base, it is a very bad news for everyone having online presence :( Here is what Luis Corrons from Panda Company says:

facebook account hack “The service’s real purpose may be hacking Facebook accounts as they say, or profiting from those that want to try the service,” says PandaLabs Technical Director Luis Corrons. “In any case, the Web page is very well designed. It is easy to contract the service and become either the victim of an online fraud, or a cyber-criminal and accomplice in identity theft. Once an intruder hacks into a Facebook account, all personal data published on the site can be stolen.”
“Similarly, those accounts can also be used to send malware, spam or other threats to the victim’s contacts,” adds Corrons. “In the case of celebrities or other well-known entities, they can be used to defame the account holder, spread information in their name, etc. In any event, this is criminal activity.”

Panda Labs says that in addition to extorting money and obtaining access to clients’ bank account information, the service also has characteristics in line with hacker affiliate programs. Essentially, these offer money to other cyber criminals for spreading malware. This particular site offers extra dollar-credits to spend on the service when users hack more accounts. Users are told they can get 20% of what they sell in credits for hacking more accounts.
The domain that hosts the site is registered in Moscow. Panda Labs speculates that the cybercriminals behind the site are members of an Eastern European Internet Mafia. Payments are conducted through Western Union to the Ukraine. The site claims to have been around for four years, with only one percent of Facebook accounts deemed “hack-proof.”

Books, Arts, Hobbies…

September 20th, 2009 | View Comments | Posted in Art, Books

Books are not for reading for some of us. Some talented guys around use books to create some arts instead of reading inside. This interesting approach gave some good art workshops though. Here are some creative models just to give an idea if you are lazy enough to read, but talented enough to create some art ;)

Mobile Web Browsers: Opera Mini, Skyfire,Opera Mobile, Bolt Browser

September 13th, 2009 | View Comments | Posted in Mobile World, Software

mobile web browsersThere is no question that today’s smartphones are a godsent to high-tech travelers. But what good is a Web-enabled phone if its browser is cumbersome or slow? With the right handset and mobile web browser software, you can surf all manner of desktop-şevel sites, without having to carry a laptop with you or find a nearby desktop PC. Here are the best picks for the best of the mobile web browsers on market.

Skyfire mobile web browser is one of the most feature rich mobile web browser out there. Skyfire mobile web browser has a capability to display Flash, Silverlight, and AJAX content that the iPhone trips over and leaves blank. Skyfire mobile web browser starts up quickly and the main screen leaves plenty of place for the page display. And Windows Mobile fans struggling with IE Mobile should head straight for Skyfire Labs. Skyfire mobile web browser also works on Symbian powered Nokie-E and Nokia-N series smartphones.

BlackBerrys can run Java apps out of the box. While newer models already come with a halfway-decent browser, the Java capability means today’s Curves, Pearls, and 8080s are prime candidates for Opera Mini mobile web browser. The latest version of Opera Mini mobile web browser supports Rss feeds and is a cinch to navigate, though it lacks Skyfire mobile web browser’s Falsh, Silverlight and AJAX compatibility. Also need to mention that video streaming works well with latest version of Opera Mini mobile web browser.

Bitstreams’s Bolt mobile browser eschews the last ounce of page accuracy by replacing web fonts with its own. This means that many web sites that are usually off-limits on a cell phone come through crisp and clear. It’s a great option for BlackBerrys. Bolt mobile web browser has a nifty split-screen mode and supports 128-bit SSL encrypted web sites.

Finally, Opera continues to refine its powerful Windows Mobile Web browser Opera Mobile. The trick at this point is waiting for cell phone data radios and touch screen response to catch up.

Focalprice and Dealextreme: The name of shopping with free shipment worldwide

September 12th, 2009 | View Comments | Posted in Shopping

FocalPriceIt is a not a secret anymore that China has the ability to produce almost any product as cheapest as possible. Till now the bigegst problem to buy from China was cargo and shipment costs added to goodies or products bought from China. Well… It is not a problem any more. These two sites DealExtreme and Focalprice merged the power of cheap Chinese product with free worldwide delivery. So whether you buy 0,99$ one product or give an order a few dozens of interesting cheap Chinese products, you do not need to worry about aditional costs for shipment. I personally gave order to both systems and delivery times vary between 7 to 17 days for my personal experience. Both dealextreme and focalprice have lots of cool products that mostly can not be found on your local stores easily. I ordered from dealextreme a pair of  acupuncture sclaff a few months ago and am still enjoying using it in my daily life. I generally visit both sites, focalprice and dealextreme when I am looking for something to give families and friends as gifts on special days or occasions. Since most of the items sold on these sites can not be found on local stores and they are really cheap in price but not in quality. Both dealextreme and focalprice have very active forum members to actively discuss about anything while to get an idea about the products you are at the neck of time ordering something.

DealExtremeI am highly surprised about the success of dealextreme and focalprice providing worldwide free shipping with these extremely low and competitive price ranges but I hope those two will be start and soon we would have much more alternatives to cheap shopping experiment without thinking much about shipment charges and costs ;)

Ohe before finishing I have to mention about their reward programs also. Dealextreme and Focalprice have reward programs for their memebrs. So whenever you shop, tell a friend about the site and recommend the site and products you usebuy or actively participate in site whether by commenting or forum posting, etc.  you will be rewarded points. So when your points sum up in your account, you can cash back those points for some free shopping experience from China! With free shipment of course ;)

InPrivate: Protect Your Privacy in IE

September 8th, 2009 | View Comments | Posted in Software

I just started to use IE8 and the new feature called InPrivate Browsing seems to be highly interesting feature for privacy concerned users. According to IE’s official decleration this feature will help to protect your privacy especially on shared computers. So whether it is a banking site, gift site, shopping site or… in most scenarios an adult site… this feature will block other users to reach the information of your browsing history…

InPrivate browsing 300x135 InPrivate: Protect Your Privacy in IEUnder the new InPrivate branding, IE8 now includes a privacy mode to allow browsing without leaving a trace (“InPrivate Browsing”), along with a feature to block the various mechanisms used to track users across websites (“InPrivate Blocking”). These new features are part of Microsoft’s continuing Trustworthy Computing initiative to ensure that software and websites respect the user’s privacy. When you choose InPrivate browsing, a new window is opened automatically and the sessions are cleare dout when this InPrivate browsing window closed.  So all your browser histories,  cookies, cached files, and autocomplete or other form information stored are cleared out when you close this InPrivate window. You can browse as many sites as you can through tabs browsing since all the new tabs will have the same InPrivate features.

InPrivate blocking the main target is to protect your browsing habit and so to block cookies from mainly advertising companies since simple cookie block sytem is not a new idea. InPrivate blocking, if a tracking code from a domain (say google analytics) is installed on 10 different site, on 11th site the cookies is not allowed to work so in this case, IE8 tries to hide information about your browsing habits. It might be a little complex mechanism for novice users but it helps to protect your privacy.

private browsing in safari 300x128 InPrivate: Protect Your Privacy in IEIn fact privacy concerns are considered by other browsers like Safari for example. When private browsing is on in Safari, webpages are not added to the history list, the Downloads window is cleared, information isn’t saved for AutoFill, and searches are not added to the pop-up menu in the search field. Any websites that store databases on your computer can’t modify the databases, so services normally available at such sites may be partially or completely unavailable until you turn off private browsing. The similar concept is built-in Chrome web browser also with a name of “Incoginto”. When you’ve gone incognito; pages that you view in incoginot window won’t appear in your browser history or search history, and they won’t leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files that you download or bookmarks that you create will be preserved, however. And Mozilla Firefox provides privacy with numerous add-ons.  I hope you like this also as I did ;)
